One of our generation’s most fearlessly honest creatives, Gemma Tansey’s writing comes from a uniquely inquisitive and versatile place of pure heart and soul.
Drawing inspiration from the depths of human pain as much so as the unadulterated joys of living, Gemma’s poetry incites a feeling of sudden presence within the world. Whether focused solely on comedic value and setting the scene, or delving more intricately into vulnerabilities amidst the search for understanding, her writing takes readers somewhere else entirely – connecting for its commitment to realness and imaginative wordplay in equal parts.
While at once we’re lifted into the lightness of humour and the comfort of nostalgia, suddenly we’re unapologetically plunged into the dark caverns of heartbreak, loss, confusion and emotional turmoil. The journey is vast and loaded with twists, turns and uncertainties, but ultimately it’s one of loving purpose and outright devotion to authenticity.
From family values to suicidal thoughts, from dance-floor euphoria to haunting memories of yesteryear, from the topical to the deeply personal – togetherness to isolation, a high to a low; a simple laugh to a gaping void. Life itself is her muse. This is poetry for the raver, the thinker, the aspiring dreamer and the hopeless romantic.
Showcasing an accessible and playful way with language, alongside a masterful grasp of the ache of death and struggle and love lost in time, Gemma's poetry is quick to connect. No stone is left unturned, no thought lacking value. While her work is sometimes upsetting, at other times it’s simply a whole lot of fun; a balance perhaps lacking in much of modern media.
Often inspiring, always genuine. The driving force is truth and wonder united, and Gemma’s words speak volumes.
